Why we ask you not to eat after 22:00, what you can still drink, and how breakfast fits into the day.
Several of your most important numbers, glucose, insulin and triglycerides, change for hours after a meal. To read them properly we need you fasted for at least nine hours.
What you can and can’t have
Water, as much as you like. Black coffee and tea are better avoided, because caffeine can raise your blood pressure and heart rate before the ECG. Take your usual medication unless we have told you otherwise.
Breakfast comes quickly
Your blood is drawn at 07:50. At 08:15 breakfast is served in the library: eggs, bread from the bakery on Marylebone Lane, fruit and as much coffee as you want.
